The Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC) is a national association representing nearly 600 member companies from all around Australia.

Our members are explorers, emerging miners, producers and a wide range of businesses and service providers working in and for our industry. We work to reduce the cost of doing business, reduce regulatory obstacles, and to support an increase in exploration, discovery and mining opportunities in Australia.

Director - Queensland

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategies to bring about policy and regulatory change relating to the mining and mineral exploration sector, such as land access, approvals, legislation, native title, aboriginal heritage, environment, infrastructure, corporate regulation and taxation matters.

  • Provides input to various Committees of the AMEC Council and other Working Groups and the implementation of actions resulting from these groups. Provide secretariat support to the Queensland Advisory Committee.

  • In consultation with the CEO, prepare submissions, policy documents, briefing notes, fact sheets, articles, correspondence, media releases, newsletters, member updates and website content.

  • Develop and manage relationships with stakeholders including members, government, and media.

  • Build and diversify AMEC’s revenue base in the state:

    • Help deliver new membership growth, and help attract sponsorship for AMEC events Maintain and strengthen existing membership relationships.

  • Be willing to complete considerable intrastate travel to:

    • recruit and retain members

    • run regional Advisory Committee meetings

    • attend relevant conferences, meetings, workshops, site visits.

  • Represent AMEC on relevant industry, government and community-based committees, task forces and working groups, and appear before Parliamentary Committees as required.

  • Assist in developing and implementing the AMEC Operational Plan that will lead to increased revenue Assist with the recruitment of members and revenue raising activities.

  • Assist the CEO with media releases, articles and general AMEC communications relating to policy. Write various articles for the media.

  • Assist in the promotion of AMEC as the preferred organisation to meet the needs of the mining and mineral exploration sector.

  • Organise networking events with the AMEC team.

 

This role also requires key relationships with internal and external stakeholders including:

  • AMEC Members

  • Partners

  • Governments, Oppositions, Parliaments, and other key organisational and institutional stakeholders

  • Media

  • Experience in writing policy documents/ submissions / correspondence / media. Strong writing skills are required.

    Strong communication, interpersonal and writing skills.

    Public speaking & chair facilitation experience and skills.

    Strategic thinker who can identify solutions to complex policy issues.

    Demonstrable aptitude for business development.

    Experience with /and understanding of an industry membership organisation and its operational drivers.

    Familiarity with the Australian mineral exploration/mining industry.

    Strong contacts/relationships with key participants in the mineral exploration/mining industry, the media, and in State Government / Parliament.

    Contemporary computer literacy and capacity to work with an integrated CRM Proactive and target driven.

    Ability to work autonomously and within a small team.

    Ability to travel regularly and widely throughout Queensland as well as occasional travel interstate.

  • Deliver and implement AMEC’s strategy and operational plan as it relates to areas of responsibility (Key deliverables will be identified with the CEO and AMEC Council).

    Timeliness, accuracy, and propriety of all communication (to internal and external stakeholders).

    Successful policy forums and member networking events. Feedback from critical AMEC members and other stakeholders (internal and external).

    Membership attraction evidenced by enrolment of full and associate members.

    Attraction of sponsorship to AMEC events.

    Demonstrate an ability to work autonomously and yet as a close team member with AMEC staff.
