The brief
Luminary was engaged by Queensland Government to assist in the appointments of a Directors-General for the Department of Resources (2021), the Department of Education (2022) and the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport. These searches required outstanding leaders who can inspire large workforces with a compelling vision, certainty, and strategic clarity. The portfolios came with a significant budget, capital, and fiscal accountability.
The solution
Luminary conducted a comprehensive international search process across relevant public sector agencies and authorities, including candidates from the private sector with previous government experience or deep knowledge across relevant federal, state and local government, and consulting sectors.
Our search efforts were further supplemented by an innovative social media campaign, supported by online candidate resources (microsite) was developed for candidates to read about both roles in one place and apply seamlessly.
The independent selection committees was presented with our proprietary L-CAR® (competency assessment ranking) tool, including concise longlist reports and our recommendation for interviews. Our submission included highly qualified, verified and diverse leaders with applicants progressing to a selection panel interview.
With applicants deemed to be meritorious, extensive referencing and background screening was undertaken ahead of our preparation of the nomination report to support the decision from the independent panel.
The result
The successful candidates appointed in May 2021, December 2022 and January 2023 each bought experience with strategic leadership across economic, policy, service delivery, stakeholder engagement, change and reform with transformational and values-based leadership with multi-jurisdictional experience at CEO level.
