Chief Operating Officer

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) plays a key strategic role in the long-term management of CS Energy’s operational fleet of thermal, renewable and storage assets in the safe, reliable and commercially effective production of electricity.

Core Accountabilities

    • Creates and visibly champions a culture focussed on health, process safety, personal safety and environmental sustainability excellence.

    • Proactively communicates the expectation for CS Energy to be ‘Safe to Run Every Day’, as a priority.

    • Initiates regular reviews of HSE performance with a focus on continual improvement.

    • Takes accountability to lead and improve process safety and HSE outcomes by effectively managing risks.

    • Escalates risks and compliance requirements to the Board. 

    • Participates in strategic networks and external stakeholder groups to align process safety and HSE policy to best practice.

    • Manages the commercials of the portfolio so that it meets financial targets.

    • Accurately anticipates and analyses trends and risks to develop an appropriate response.

    • Defines structure and resourcing requirements to deliver strategy and results.

    • Balances short term results with long term viability, growth and sustainability.

    • Sets strategic direction and goals to drive value and deliver long term profitability and sustainability to shareholders.

    • Holds self to account for delivering results and utilising formal performance management processes to track, monitor and acknowledge individual performance contributions.

    • Promotes the creation of shared mission, vision and values and uses those principles to inspire the division and guide actions.

    • Translates vision into action by inspiring others to act, while providing guideposts for decision-making and action.

    • Champions a culture of high performance where everyone is committed to and accountable for ongoing performance management and feedback.

    • Ensure the organisation's Employee Value Proposition (EVP) is effectively communicated and consistently delivered to attract, retain, and engage top talent.

    • Capitalises on both formal channels and informal networks, to achieve goals.

    • Develops key messages for strategic and cultural alignment and ensures consistent delivery of messages throughout the organisation.

    • Demonstrates a deep understanding of the political setting of the organisation and builds alignment where there are diverse priorities or differing points of view.

    • Creates a culture of collaboration at all levels within Business Unit.

    • Removes barriers to facilitate a ‘One Team’ approach.

What We Are Looking For

  • Education & Certification

    Degree level qualifications in a relevant discipline including engineering, science, business or economics.

    Post-graduate qualifications would be advantageous.

  • Experience

    A seasoned generalist who has the technical expertise and experience to deeply understand CS Energy's core business and related processes, but who also has an elevated leadership skillset which can drive performance and quality across the organisation's operations. 

    Proven success in a key senior leadership role in the energy or other asset intensive industry.

    Demonstrated experience in project management and successful delivery of capital works projects.

    Extensive knowledge and experience in power station operations and management would be an advantage.

  • Special Requirements

    Thorough understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice.

    Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

    Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

    Demonstrated ability to lead and drive change and implement process improvement.

    An unwavering passion for high safety standards.
