We are seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to lead the development and implementation of strategies that will transform this important economy.

The interim Queensland Night Life Commissioner will focus on leading ideas and innovation to grow and support this diverse sector within the Queensland economy. Maximising existing opportunities, preparing for future economic opportunities, and supporting the night life sector’s growth across the state will be the focus of this new role.

The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) is focused on increasing building Queensland’s future workforce through connecting all Queenslanders to learning opportunities, quality training, employment opportunities, and by helping small businesses to start and thrive.

About the Role

The position reports to the Minister for Employment and Small Business and for Training and Skills Development while being aligned to the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT). DESBT will provide support for the activities of the Commissioner during the contract period.

Queensland’s diverse and vibrant night life sector is a contributor to the state’s jobs growth and economic prosperity. The Commissioner will play a key role in identifying opportunities to continue this growth and work closely with other key agencies and bodies with responsibilities and initiatives connected to the night life economy.

As Commissioner, and working in partnership with DESBT, you will bring together State departments, Local Governments, industry and community to support Queensland’s night-time economy, with an emphasis on partnerships that promote the growth, sustainability, and vibrancy of this important sector across the state.

Through this role, the Commissioner will grow stakeholder confidence demonstrating leadership that demonstrates and promotes ethical decision making, honesty and fairness, focussing on the public interest.

Your Accountabilities

As the interim Commissioner, you will:

  • work with key stakeholders and industry to support, promote and advocate for key aspects of the night life economy, including live music, theatre, arts, entertainment, festival events, dining, night life and tourist activities;

  • promote Queensland as an exciting place to do business in the night life economy;

  • provide a vital link between all levels of government, industry and the community, with an emphasis on advocating for and identifying opportunities to support Queensland’s night life economy sector; and

  • provide government with strategic insights into the night life industry and inform government approaches to supporting a vibrant night life sector.
